The Basic Skills Department’s mission is to prepare students to enter college, earn a High School Equivalency Diploma, develop English language skills or start a career.

Classes for adults 19 and over to build basic reading, writing and math skills in preparation for High School Equivalency classes.
- High School Equivalency
Classes for adults 19 and over to develop reading, writing and math skills to prepare for the High School Equivalency Exam (TASC).
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
Classes to help students develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English. ESL classes are offered at the college campus and at a public school in Woodside, Queens, NY.
