GENERAL PRE-REQUISITES FOR PARAMEDIC PROGRAM ADMISSION
The general pre-requisites for admission to the Paramedic Program are the same for both AAS Degree applicants and Certificate Program applicants:
EDUCATION• High School Diploma (GED certificate accepted)
EMT CERTIFICATION• Evidence of current NYS EMT – Basic Certification (must remain valid for duration of paramedic training).
• AAS Degree applicants who are not currently EMTs must apply for admission to the EMT-Basic class (Room C-339).
AMBULANCE EXPERIENCE• Minimum 6 months or 200 clinical hours of ambulance experience is required for admission to the Paramedic Program. Candidates who meet the pre-requisites listed above are eligible to take the entrance exams for the Paramedic Program.
The entrance exams assess three important areas:
• Essential Math and Algebra Skills
• EMT – Basic Knowledge
• Reading Comprehension
Applicants must pass each section with 75% (C) or better to be eligible for the interview with a member of the faculty. There will be two re-tests allowed for any failed categories. IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT APPLICANTS PREPARE FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAMS. INQUIRE ABOUT THE SAMPLE EXAMS WHICH ARE AVAILABLE TO ASSIST YOU!
The admission decision is based on the following criteria:
• Entrance exam results
• EMS experience
• Educational background (prior college courses and/or EMS continuing education courses)
• Interview with Program Director or faculty
