• President's Society
  • A majority of the President’s Society students, like their peers on campus, come from low income households and are the first in their family to go to college. Over half were born outside the U.S. and lack fluency in English. Most of them work multiple jobs and receive financial assistance to be able to afford school.

In the 2012-2013 President's Society graduating class:

    • Of those who graduated LaGuardia, 65% are attending four-year colleges, including Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown and Smith
    • 85% received financial assistance and need support to stay in school
    • 76% worked outside jobs while they were in the program
    • 50% are natives of other countries and only three spoke fluent English when they came to the U.S.

Despite their lack of real-world skills, professional confidence and connections, President’s Society students have the motivation and ability to get ahead. They hold leadership positions at the College, maintain high grades, and demonstrate a consistent commitment to enhancing their lives and communities.
