Meet Our Physical Education Staff
 

Michael Gordon

My name is Michael Gordon and I currently reside in Roslyn Heights,Long Island. I grew up in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. I received my Masters Degree in Physical Education from Adelphi University in August, 1994 and my Health Certification in July 1997. I taught Physical Education at Newcomers High School for 6 years and will begin teaching at Information Technology High School this September. I have also taught Social Studies and Math at Francis Lewis High School and Hillcrest High School. At Newcomers, I have been the coach of the Boys Varsity Basketball and Tennis Teams all six years I have worked there.This is my sixth year working as a Physical Education Teacher for the SIELP Program. I was introduced to the program by my friends, Tom Hall and Louis Llull, who also work as Physical Education teachers. Besides teaching the students, I have an opportunity to learn many things from our students as well. I am grateful to be working in this program and love being around children throughout the summer.

Geoffe Serrano

My name is Geoffe Serrano, and I am 28 years old from the Southeast Asian Islands of the Philippines. I am currently a student at Queens College, and will be getting my bachelors degree in august, 2004 in physical education. My hobbies consist of playing many sports in various leagues. I love to play basketball, baseball, football, and soccer. I am also a personal trainer at a sports club, which means I like to stay in shape and practice a healthy lifestyle. Also, I like listening to all types of music because it relaxes me very much. This is my second year at the S.I.E.L.P. program and I am enjoying it very much. I’m very excited at working with so many different cultures and I learn more and more everyday

Joseph DePrimo

I am a second year S.I.E.L.P physical education teacher. This year I am teaching the soccer unit.This is my third year teaching physical education at Newcomers High School. I coach the boys’ varsity basketball team and handball team at Newcomers high school. My specialty is teaching fitness and weight training classes. I hope to continue working for the S.I.E.L.P program and teaching importance of life long leisure to our students who are making a transition into high school. I would love to teach sports that may be new or different for our students. Possible in the future incorporate a fitness or weight training program for S.I.E.L.P Students. Finish up my master this year in multicultural education.  

Millad Abdin Milon

Hi, my name is Millad Abdin Milon. I am from Bangladesh. I am a lower junior at Queens College. This is my third year at SIELP as a P.E.T.A. I came to SIELP as a student few years ago, being a student at SIELP I have learned a lot. SIELP gave me the opportunity to gain knowledge, make friends each and every year, and most of all, I got to meet staff, teachers and teaching assistants. I have enjoyed each and every moment of SIELP and hopefully I will in the future. Starting as a leader to teaching assistant, it was an assume experience for me. In addition, for me SIELP was a way to explore the world around me; I am sure for all of you as well. Hey you guys have made it just like me…the summer is finally over. Good luck to all of you in high school.

 

Roxana Elena Vasescu

My name is Roxana Elena Vasescu I am from Romania. I am a student at newcomers High School. I have been playing tennis for the last 4 years for newcomers High school tennis team. In 2005 I was the manager. Now I work as a teacher assistant, teaching the students to play soccer. This is my second year working for this summer program.

 

 

Aldo Zejeda

My name is Aldo Zejeda and I am from the Dominican Republic. My hobbies are playing sports like basketball, baseball, soccer, tae kwon do, tennis and boxing. In my future I want to keep play and organize basketball in John Jay College of Criminal Justice and study Criminology to help people who have problem with the law. Also I would like to keep teaching children how to play basketball and be a good player in the future.
