Monica Vegas - Counselor

This is my first summer with SIELP and I am very proud to be part of such a great program. My favorite part of working at SIELP is seeing students who are looking into the future and searching for their dreams to come true. Coming from different country, I know how challenging it can be, at times, to hold on to one’s dreams and continue to push forward. Working with the Leaders is also an amazing experience for they are truly inspiring, great individuals. I am happy to be part of such an amazing group of people. In addition to my work here at SIELP, I am working on my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at City College. I live in Manhattan, love practicing Yoga, and enjoy eating, reading novels and going to the movies.

Joy Huang - Counselor Assistant

Hi everyone! My name is Joy Huang. I grew up in Taiwan and came to United States five years ago. I go to Long Island University C.W. Post campus to study pharmacy. In SIELP 2001, I was a student in LaGuardia Community College. In 2002, I came back as a leader to help out the students who wanted to improve their English. Since 2002, I have been coming back as an unofficial leader to help and I started working as a counselor assistant last year. The part that I like the most about SIELP is that all the staffs’ care about the students. They are very patient in helping the students. The classes are very helpful.  I am also able to meet different people everyday in this program. I wish you all to have a great summer and good luck in high school!
