#15 LaGuardia Red Hawks Knock Off #3 Sullivan Generals

    12/15/2014 | Box Score

The LaGuardia Red Hawks took down the #3 ranked team in the nation this past Sunday when they defeated the Sullivan Generals by a score of 80-73.

"This was our second time bouncing back after a loss," said LaGuardia coach Ben Chobhaphand, whose team is ranked #15 in the country. "It's only one game, but we overcame adversity to beat a nationally ranked powerhouse. That shows the great character of our team."

Earlier in the year, the team responded to losing a conference game against Bronx by defeating Division II Community College of Rhode Island 61-57. This week, after suffering a hard-fought 84-74 loss to the #7 ranked BMCC Panthers on Thursday, the team was up to the challenge once again.

The Red Hawks grabbed the lead early and hardly trailed throughout the game. Sophomore shooting guard Nick Padgett had a breakout game, scoring 25 points, grabbing 5 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. Brooklyn native Kareem Brown, who earned CUNYAC Male Player of the Week honors earlier in the season, came off the bench to add 11 points in the game.

Keith Gardner's defense was an integral part of the Red Hawks' victory, according to Chobhaphand. The forward successfully limited the amount of quality scoring chances Sullivan's top players had throughout the game.
