Effective February 14, 2012, all graduates of Occupational Therapy Assistant Educational Programs are required to pass a national certification exam in order to practice in New York State. The exam administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) consists of 200 questions.
As a result of this legislative change, LaGuardia Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is implementing the following policy:
Effective June 2012, all students registered to take SCO295 (OT Fieldwork: Physical/Development Disabilities - the final course in the curriculum sequence) will be required to purchase an online NBCOT practice exam and show proof of completion of that exam with a minimum of 70% of the questions correct. Students must achieve this minimum of 70% to pass SCO295 and graduate from the LaGuardia Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
