Tips for using SafeAsign

Recent version of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox have security measures that may affect actions on a secure site that begins with https:// (note the "s").  Blackboard is a secure site and contains the https:// in the address bar at the top of the page.  When using SafeAssign within Blackboard, this may prevent the SafeAssignment file from uploading.  When this occurs, a shield/globe icon will appear in the address bar.  Click on the icon to allow the content to be displayed. In all browsers, make sure cookies are enabled.

Why do my students and I occasionally get an error message tha we are not logged into SafeAssign?
If you get this error and you are logged into Blackboard, it means that the security or privacy settings of your web browser are set to not allow 3rd-party cookies. You will need to change that setting to be able to use SafeAssign.

    For Google Chrome:
    • Click the Chrome menu icon   Menu
    • Select Settings.
    • Near the bottom of the page, click Show advanced settings.
    • In the “Privacy” section, click Content settings.
    • Enable Cookies:
To enable cookies, select Allow local data to be set (recommended)
      • Click Done to save.

       For Firefox:

      • Click Tools
      • Click Options
      • Click Privacy
      • Select Accept cookies from site
      • Select Accept third-party cookies
      • Change Keep until to they expire

      For Safari:

      • Click Safari
      • Click Preferences
      • Click Privacy
      • Block Cookies : Select "Never"

      For Internet Explorer:

      • Click Tools
      • Click Internet Options
      • Click Privacy
      • Set the setting to Low

9/23/13 Important message for the Faculty:
On October 30 2013, the archiving process will commence for Spring 2012 Sessions I and II courses in Blackboard. After that time, these courses will no longer be available within the Blackboard environment. To have an (already) archived course restored to Blackboard, please send your request through this form:  https://www.laguardia.edu/sschelp-fac

It will take 1 to 3 business days for a course to be restored following the request.
Important message for all Blackboard users:
The most important factor in using Blackboard is making sure that you have the right browser version. Blackboard supports all newer stable versions of Chrome and Firefox. Users should consider downloading the two recommended browsers. When encountering a difficulty using Blackboard, before contacting technical support, please try your action in another browser. Often times just switching browsers will resolve the issue. Especially while using Vista/CE, if you are unable to view discussion postings, quiz windows, and download links, then you may need to disable the pop-up block.
