LaGuardia Community College Brings Thanksgiving to Students Impacted by Hurricane Sandy and Away From Home
Long Island City, NY—November 21, 2012—LaGuardia’s Student Advisory Council made sure 500 students who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy or were separated from family and friends were able to celebrate Thanksgiving by hosting a holiday lunch on the college campus on November 20.
The buffet-style feast, catered by the Van Dam Diner and orchestrated by the nursing program, was an elaborate spread that gave the diners a choice of a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings as well as Italian, Chinese and other international fare.
Vice President of Student Affairs, Michael Baston, addressed the dinners and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving on behalf of the administration, faculty and staff of LaGuardia Community College.
In addition to the Thanksgiving luncheon, over 75 bags of groceries and gift cards, donated by faculty and staff during the “Donate a Dinner” initiative, were given to students who had been impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The
