Long Island City, NY––February 25, 2013––LaGuardia Community College Adjunct Lecturer of Criminal Justice Charlene Fletcher-Brown is one of the first members of the new Queens chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the first chapter in the organization's history to be founded by a woman of color. 

An ancestor of Fletcher-Brown served in every war the United States fought since the French and Indian War, which started in 1754. 

CUNY graduate, genealogist and author Wilhelmena Rhodes Kelly launched the Increase Carpenter Chapter of the DAR -  an organization marked by its rejection of African Americans in the 1930's -  in June of 2012.
