  • FINANCIAL AID and ELIGIBILITY


    IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSION TO THE CD PROGRAM, A STUDENT NEEDS TO MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: 

     

    • Is a graduate of an approved high school or has attained a New York State high school equivalency diploma or its equivalent as determined by the Commissioner of Education of the State of New York;
    • Has not previously attended a college or university, except in the case of students enrolled in HEOP, EOP or SEEK, or veterans who may have earned up to 18 credits of college-level work prior to entrance into the service (except for USAFI and service-connected University of Maryland credits);
    • Has been a resident of New York City for at least one year;

     

     

    TO BE CONSIDERED FOR FINANCIAL ELIGIBILITY FOR THE PROGRAM: 

     

    • Students must complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and the NY State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application (you will be directed to the TAP application after completing the online FAFSA). Students must complete these applications and hand in proof of family income to LaGuardia's Student Financial Services (C-107) before the student's first semester begins. Students will not be eligible for the College Discovery Program if the correct forms and documentation are not submitted by the end of the student's first semester.

     

     

    TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE PROGRAM, STUDENTS MUST ALSO: 

     

    • Check the box on the CUNY application form that indicates that the student is interested in becoming a CD student;
    • Take placement tests
    • Submit immunization information, HS dimploma, and other required documents
      Attend the First Year Institute before their first semester at LaGuardia, except for:
      1. Students who have no basic skills requirements based on their CUNY Skills Assessment Test scores;
      2. Students who attended the CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP);
      3. Students who need to take High School courses over the summer to graduate.
    • CD students must maintain full-time status in order to remain eligible for the program and stipends.
    • Once students begin receiving federal and/or state assistance, they must remain in good academic standing and continue making progress toward a degree, in order to continue receiving aid.

    FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE


     To receive financial aid at LaGuardia, students must complete two forms: 

     

     

    In addition, to help ensure CD students can attend and succeed in their college classes, the CD Program awards financial aid stipends to economically eligible students to assist with educational expenses such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation, and living expenses.

    Loans and part-time employment are also available through Student Financial Services (C-316) for those who qualify.
