THE COLLEGE DISCOVERY CLUB
About The CD Club
CD Club members get involved in volunteer work in and around our area.
We are concerned with helping the environment and helping those in our
community. We are not only College Discovery Students but also we are also part of the ASAP program as well as LaGuardia. We would like to get involved in any type of volunteer opportunities that have an
impact on us and our community.
CD Club Events
"It's My Park Day at Union Square Park"
Saturday May 18th we volunteered at Union Square Park in Manhattan.
"It's My Park Day at Travers Park"
Saturday May 11th we volunteered at Travers Park located in Queens.
We trimmed bushes while at the same time learning about how some plants can
only be cut during certain times of the year.
We also spread mulch and cut down dead branches.
We worked with botanists who taught us how to trim and cut bushes the right
way and it was great to be mentored abotu plant species and their natural
habitats by people who are working in this field.
"Street Games"
Saturday, April 27, 2013 we volunteered in Thomas Jefferson Park located in
Manhattan
We volunteered teaching children how to play games like connect four,
checkers and twister.
We also supervised the children when they were running in the relay races.
It was a great experience to be able to guide children through the rules of
playing games that are now considered "old school"
