» Internship Placement
How does the internship placement process work?
Your Co-op Faculty Advisor guides you through the internship
placement process. This includes includes a meeting to select an
internship site, arranging an interview, and registering for the
internship and seminar.
1. You enter the internship program when you register for the
CEP121 Fundamentals of Professional Advancement. Upon successful
completion of the Fundamentals of Professional Advancement
course, you are assigned to a Co-op Faculty Advisor for
individualized instruction and internship planning.
2. The semester you are scheduled to earn 24 credits, you meet
on an individual basis with your Co-op Faculty Advisor and
decide when you will register for your first internship and
seminar. Click here
3. You and your advisor will decide on possible internship sites
that will meet your learning objectives and career goals. In
addition, you have a number of tasks to complete during these
meetings, including polishing your resume, obtaining a Permit to
Register, and deciding on internship seminar options.
4-5. You interview with employers (one at a time) until
placement is secured. Depending on whether your Co-op Faculty
Advisor also manages the internship site, referral for an
interview may be a one-step or two-step process.
4a. If the internship site is managed by another Co-op faculty
member, you set an appointment to meet with him/her to discuss
possible referral. If the site is still available and you meet
the qualifications, you are then given an external referral to
the internship site.. If not, you are referred back to your
Co-op Faculty Advisor to discuss other internship options. You
begin the referral process again.
4b. If the internship site is available or is managed by your
Co-op Faculty Advisor, you are referred directly to the
internship site to be interviewed.
You are accepted by the internship site for your internship. If
you are not accepted, you meet with your Co-op Faculty Advisor,
review your options, and begin the referral and interview
process again (Steps 3 - 5) until an internship is secured.
6. You take the permit to register to Co-op Central, M204. Check
your registration online to see that you are registered for an
internship and seminar. Be sure you have two course codes: the
internship and a concurrent seminar.
7. You take the internship and seminar. Make sure that you
follow the internship and seminar calendars as they differ from
the college calendar
8. Upon completion of the internship and seminar, you meet with
your Co-op Faculty Advisor for a final evaluation conference to
assess learning on your internship, review your employer
evaluation, and seminar performance. You obtain a grade for
CEP201 and discuss whether to take an optional internship.
9. An additional part-time and/or full-time internship may be a
good option in specific cases. Discuss this possibility with
your Co-op Faculty Advisor. If you elect an optional internship,
repeat Steps 2 to 7 to complete your second internship
