electricity to workers in the field who wish to complement their
hands-on skills.

Licensed Refrigeration Machine Operator
In conjunction with the National Association of Power Engineers
(NAPE), Chapter 44, LaGuardia offers the "Licensed Refrigeration
Machine Operator" program for members of NAPE. Passing this
course prepares students for the written and practical exam for
the license issued by the N.Y.C. Fire Department. All participants
must be members of NAPE; students who are not members of NAPE
may join when they register. In addition to tuition, annual dues
for members taking the Licensed Refrigeration Machine Operator
course are $124.00, with an initiation fee of $56.00. Certificates
are awarded upon successful completion of the course. These fees
can be paid with a check or money order (no cash accepted) when
registering for the course. For more information, please call

Practical Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
Part one of this course is an introduction to the principles
of refrigeration, including gas laws and pressure/temperature
relationships, basic electricity concepts, compressors, condensers,
evaporators, desiccants and driers. Part two focuses on refrigeration
evaporators, thermostatic expansion valves, refrigeration system
controls, safe handling of refrigerants, tools, controls and troubleshooting
techniques. Eligible students can test for the ESCO HVAC Excellence
Air Conditioning Certification. Payment plans are available
through third parties outside the College. Students registering
for this course are required to join the Refrigeration Services
Engineers Society(RSES); membership and dues are $115 for the
year.

Practical Electricity/AC125343
Part one of this course covers fundamental concepts, including:
circuits and circuitry, currents, meters, electrical symbols/drawings,
resistors, capacitors, conductors, transformers, relays, motors
and power supplies. Part two deals with basic electronics and
troubleshooting components:solid state fundamentals, power supply
regulation, digital electronics, integrated circuits, microcompressors
and computers, and test equipment and the parts and systems they
check. Payment plans are available through third parties
outside the College. Students registering for this course
are required to join the Refrigeration Services Engineers Society(RSES);
membership and dues are $115for the year.
