LaGuardia Community College's Division of Adult & Continuing Education offers a certificate program on-line that will teach you the skills you need to design and create professional-looking web pages. In addition to integrating photographs, graphics and animation into web pages, you will also develop a basic understanding of how to position on-line businesses on the internet. Students must complete a total of 5 on-line courses with a grade of 75 or better, to qualify for the certificate.

Creating Web Pages On-Line

Every site you see on the Internet's World Wide Web is made up of web pages created with the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). The Internet's rapid growth has created an urgent demand for web page design and knowledge of HTML. In this unique six-week on-line workshop, you'll learn how to create sensational web sites complete with text, graphics (both static and animated), color, background. lists, four types of links, hot buttons and tables. In the process, you will learn about time-saving authoring programs, how to select a web hosting service and how to upload your web site to a web server. Knowledge of HTML is not necessary to take this course. Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of the Internet and Windows.

This course teaches the essentials of one of the most powerful tools for building Web sites without HTML. You'll learn the principles of site design and navigational structures, and how to manipulate text, graphics, and buttons. You'll discover the secrets to organizing your pages professionally with tables, how to choose a Web Presence Provider, how to publish your site on the Web, how to attract visitors to your site, and more. Prerequisite: Completion of Creating Web Pages and installation of Microsoft FrontPage on your computer. (Note: Students may request permission to take a prior version of FrontPage.)
