The Certificate Program in Computer Repair provides students with the practical and conceptual skills necessary to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace malfunctioning computer hardware and to prepare for the A+ Certification exam in Computer Repair. It is geared to students with a good knowledge of software applications and a basic knowledge of the Windows and DOS operating systems who are: currently using computers for business and/or recreation, working in the computer field or seeking to transfer technical skills From other fields to computers. If you do not want a certificate, you may enroll in the program, but must take and pass the screening test. To take the screening test, click here. If you do not pass the screening test, you will need to take the course: Introduction to Computer Technology (Payment is on a course by course basis, and enrollment is limited.) The required courses for the Certificate Program are: Computer Repair, Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4.
A certificate will be issued to students who successfully complete all four courses.

Course: Introduction to Computer Technology

This course is for those who wish to understand how computers work and are interested in getting into a technical field such as computer repair, networking, web development or engineering. If you’re fascinated by computers but currently have no experience -- or just dabble with an application and surf the Internet -- this course will give you the foundation you need to begin a career in the field. Students will learn the basics of hardware, software and storage devices; what data actually consist of; what operating systems are and how they control computer functions, how to install an operating system; different types of Windows environments, and an overview of applications and internet use of PCs. This course is a prerequisite for Computer Repair, Part 1.

Course: Computer Repair Part 1

This course combines lecture, demonstration and hands-on experience to provide students with the background and skills to do basic computer repair, with heavy emphasis on IBM compatible hardware. Students will work together to disassemble a PC, install component parts, practice troubleshooting techniques and learn proper use of tools. Prospective students must pass a screening test demonstrating a basic knowledge of the Windows and MS-DOS Operating Systems in order to register. Course: Computer Repair Part 2

This course focuses on PC operating systems architecture, (Windows 2000 and Windows XP), hardware and software. It will cover operating system preparation, and installation and software configuration; computer virus prevention and detection programs; memory management tools and techniques. In addition, students will learn to perform software diagnostics, and install and troubleshoot Multimedia components such as CD ROMS and sound cards. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Computer Repair, part 1.

Course: Computer Repair Part 3

Personal Computers in the Local Network Environment
Learn how networks operate and the diagnostic software needed to analyze PC problems on a network. Topics include LAN topologies, cabling, network operating systems and Network hardware. It will not cover wide area networks, routing and bridging, and network operating systems installation. Enrollment is limited. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Computer Repair, parts 1 and 2.

Course: Computer Repair Part 4

This course was designed to provide an in-depth study of the Microsoft Windows Operating System Facilities and explore new system up-grade methodologies. Students will receive instruction in application system up-grades and the use of third party system monitoring and software inventory tools, as well as hands-on experience in motherboard configuration, memory and CPU up-grades. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Computer Repair, parts 1,2 and 3.

Course: Master Class in Computer Service Technician- Hands on!

This program will take you to a level of mastery and confidence far beyond your training for A+ Certification. You will have the opportunity to gain greater competency in PC building, software installation, problem analysis, problem solving and system maintenance through extensive hands-on experience working on specific projects that test your expertise and flexibility in real time and pressure situations. Prerequisite: Completion of the Certificate Program in Computer Repair or COMTIA A+ Certification.
