Then AND Now
LaGuardia Community College celebrates 40 years of challenging expectactions
Dear LAGCC Community,
Someone once said, "life begins at 40." Here at LaGuardia Community College we are celebrating our 40th anniversary of opening the doors of higher education to all.
Together, over the next year, we will look back over our accomplishments and honor the students, faculty and staff that have built this incredible institution. We will celebrate our bold, innovative, can-do spirit that has driven us to solve difficult problems facing our community and has cemented our reputation as a national leader among community colleges.
Over the last 40 years, we've graduated tens of thousands of students who have gone on to build a better life for themselves and their families. We're experts at helping new immigrants learn English and creating programs that help students who never finished high school earn a GED and enter college; providing small businesses with training and resources to survive in one of the toughest economies since the Great Depression and building academic programs that are renowned for their intellectual rigor, as well as for fostering faculty inquiry and research.
As we look to the future, to the next 40 years, we will continue to ask "What if?" It's how every single one of our achievements began: with the courage to question, the drive to experiment and the will to change.
Our 40th anniversary website features fun facts, historical photographs and a timeline that tells the story of our first 40 years. We also want to hear your stories about our past and hear what our College community has to say about where we're going.
I hope you enjoy the website and I look forward to seeing you at our 40th anniversary celebrations on- and off-campus.
