There are advantages to applying early. Review the CUNY deadlines for freshman and transfer admission.
At LaGuardia Community College, after you’re admitted, if you do not score well on your placement tests, you may be eligible to take a free refresher course, which will help you save time and money by avoiding non-credit remedial courses. You must take the placement tests two months before the first day of classes. After the refresher course, you will re-test in that subject before registering for classes. Also, if you apply early, you can enroll in your classes early; you’ll have more courses to choose from, making it easier to work your class schedule. Courses fill up fast, so avoid having the class you need at the time you need, closed.
All students regardless of their financial/legal status should file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. You can do this before you apply to LaGuardia. Although, many non-U.S. citizens will not be eligible for federal financial aid, you may need FAFSA results to qualify for state or private financial aid.
