College Opportunity to Prepare for Employment (COPE)
COPE Program is funded by and operated in collaboration with the Family Independence Administration of City of New York Human Resource Administration (HRA). Services are available to anyone who is a current or former CUNY student or applicant, and who is receiving public assistance cash benefits (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Safety Net Family Assistance, Safety Net Single Assistance).
COPE offers a variety of services that help students meet college degree goals and HRA requirements so that they can graduate and get jobs that will lead to long-term economic self-sufficiency.
Services Include:
- Academic and personal counseling
- Assistance with registration, course planning and scheduling
- Assistance with accessing appropriate childcare and transportation needs
- Meeting workfare requirements and preparing for HRA appointments
- Math and English Tutoring
- Job preparation and job placement
- Information mailings and seminars
Job Placement services include:
- Assistance with resume preparation
- Full or P/T Job Openings in wide variety of fields (focused and related to career path)
- Interview and career preparation
- Required attendance at important career events
- Job Open Houses; Seminars; Job Fairs
- Individual and group counseling
- Dress for success outfits
- Metrocard Incentives
- Workshops and seminars
WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (WEP)
This program permits full-time TANF students to meet their workfare obligation in specially developed WEP assignments that do not interfere with college attendance. On campus WEP is available to students enrolled at LaGuardia Community College. CUNY WEP is operated in collaboration with the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island (JCCGCI). All CUNY WEP assignments are arranged and monitored by JCCGCI.
