1. Mr. Michael Napolitano (Business and Technology Department) and Dr. Richard K. Lieberman (LaGuardia and Wagner Archives) - Involved in discussions concerning the planning and eventual execution of the concert.
2. Professor Rajendra Bhika (Business and Technology Department) and Professor Andrea Francis (Business and Technology Department):
a. Coordinate the activities of students, faculty, courses, and all departments/divisions involved in this initiative as noted below.
b. Work with Dr. Richard Lieberman (LaGuardia and Wagner Archives), Ms. Lisa DeSpain (Humanities Department), and Ms. Taryn Anderson (Humanities Department) to select five periods during the history of Steinway & Sons, which also coincide with significant developments in Queens, New York City, and America’s history. These periods will be the basis for the concert’s theme and students’ performances, and are as follows:
- 1850s -1860s: The arrival of the Steinway family to America and the start of the Steinway & Sons business
- 1870s - 1880s: Building of Steinway Village
- 1920s: Opening of Steinway Hall on West 57th Street, New York
- 1970s: John Lennon's Imagine
- Now and the Future: A look at what is happening now and how it will impact the future for Steinway & Sons
c. Collaborate with Tara Hickman (LaGuardia and Wagner Archives) and Steven Levine (LaGuardia and Wagner Archives) to develop a Steinway & Sons collage of artifacts, which will begin at the entrance of the College and lead to the Little Theater. This collage will greet guests as they enter the College and assist to create a theme for the concert.
d. Work with the President’s Office to extend invitations to senior executives of Steinway & Sons and develop a list of other invitees with Ms. Eneida Rivas (Office College and Community Relations).
e. Arrange with Ms. Eneida Rivas (Office College and Community Relations) to have a reception at the conclusion the concert for Steinway & Sons representatives and students, faculty, and staff from the College involved in the planning and execution of the event.
f. Coordinate with Ms. Susan Lyddon (Division of Institutional Advancement), Ms. Randy Fader-Smith (Office of Marketing and Communications), and Ms. Nicole Lytle (Business and Technology Department) to address the promotional efforts for the concert (i.e., the College’s website, television screens located across campus, external press, etc.).
g. Update the Business and Technology - Steinway Research Project ePortfolio to capture the energy and efforts of students, faculty, departments/divisions, the College, and Steinway & Sons to plan, promote, and execute the concert.
3. Ms. Nicole Maguire (Business and Technology Department) - Coordinate the activities of students in the course titled Introduction to Business to develop one-minute speeches, which will precede each vocal and/or instrumental performance. These speeches will provide brief synopses of the significant events that were taking place in Queens, New York City, and America, during the periods discussed above, and how those events impacted Steinway & Sons. Additionally, Ms. Maguire’s students will develop multimedia presentations of images that best represent the events of periods covered in the concert. These slideshows will be projected during students’ performances.
4. Ms. Nicole Lytle (Business and Technology Department) - Coordinate the
activities of students in the course titled Principles of Marketing to
develop promotional materials for the concert. Advertising media
developed by Ms. Lytle’s students will include print brochures, a
Facebook page, and television and radio commercials. The print
brochures will be distributed to invitees. The television commercial
will be posted on the College’s website as well as television screens
located across campus, and the radio commercial will be played on the
College’s Web Radio Station - WLGCC.
5. Mr. Hector Fernandez (Business and Technology Department) - Coordinate
activities of students in the course titled Business Law I to learn
about the legal aspects as it relates to planning, promoting, and
executing a concert. Moreover, Mr. Fernandez will direct the activities
of students to promote the concert on campus.
6. Mr. Santo Trapani (Business and Technology Department), Dr. Louis A.
Lucca (Humanities Department), and Ms. Patricia Sokolski (Humanities
Department) - Prepare students to effectively deliver the one-minute
speeches developed by Ms. Nicole Maguire’s (Business and Technology
Department) students, which will precede the vocal and/or instrumental
performances of the concert.
7. Mr. Steven Hitt (LaGuardia Performing Arts Center), Ms. Lisa DeSpain
(Humanities Department), Ms. Taryn Anderson (Humanities Department), and
Ms. Carmen Griffin (LaGuardia Performing Arts Center) - Select and
prepare music students to perform at the concert, and coordinate the
production of the event. Moreover, Mr. Hitt will work with Ms. Eneida
Rivas (Office of College and Community Relations) to determine
approaches to best publicize and build an audience for the concert.
8. Mr. Hugo Fernandez (Humanities Department) - Interview students and
faculty involved in the planning and execution of the concert on the
College’ Web Radio Station - WLGCC. Moreover, Mr. Fernandez will
promote the radio commercial developed by Ms. Nicole Lytle’s (Business
and Technology Department) students on the College’ Web Radio Station -
WLGCC.
9. Mr. Javier Larenas (Humanities Department) - Coordinate the activities
of photography students to document the activities of the concert.
10. Ms. Aarti N. Maharaj (English Department) - Coordinate the activities of
students in the course titled Composition I: An Introduction to
Expository Writing to edit the print advertisement developed by Ms.
Nicole Lytle’s (Business and Technology Department) students and the
one-minute speeches developed by Ms. Nicole Maguire’s (Business and
Technology Department) students.
11. Dr. Kimberly Ramirez (English Department) - Develop a playbill/program for the concert.
