  •  HOW AND WHEN TO ARRIVE, WHERE TO GO

    LaGuardia’s 42nd Commencement Exercises will be held at the Jacob Javits Center North on Thursday, June 5. Please note and follow these instructions.

    RSVP by May 2 for Admission Tickets.


    RSVP on-line via RSVP Form.
    Please print and bring the confirmation message to the Javits Center North for admission. One ticket per person, per RSVP. We will not be able to accommodate a spouse or a guest.

    All faculty and staff should complete the on-line RSVP form. If your name does not appear on our check-in lists, you will not be allowed to enter the robing area to prepare for the academic procession.
     

     Academic Attire

    How to Order Your Academic Attire


    If you would like to participate in the Academic Procession, you must wear academic attire. Our supplier is Herff Jones, a company that has served the College for many years. Paul Reilly is our sales representative and may be reached at pjreill@aol.com, or telephone (516) 781-0348, or via fax (516) 781-0349. Herff Jones will accept orders for specific attire (for faculty and staff only) from now until April 18, 2014.

    When placing your order, please provide the following information:

    Your Name
    Height
    Cap size
    Highest Degree earned
    College or University from which highest degree was received

    Please note – if you rented garments from Herff Jones last June, please place a new order. Avoid disappointment and confirm your individual order with Paul Reilly at pjreill@aol.com.

    If you miss the April 18th deadline, the late ordering period for specific attire will run from April 21st through May 5th for an additional $18 fee.

    Payment may be made when you pick up your rental garments on Thursday, May 22, Friday, May 23, and Tuesday, June 3, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Room E-111. Cash, check, money order or credit card payments accepted. Make money orders and checks payable to: Herff Jones.

    Herff Jones will also have a supply of extra gowns available for immediate rental on May 22nd. The extra garments will be a limited selection of doctoral gowns with education or CUNY hoods.

     Commencement Marshals and Volunteers

     

    Please arrive by 7:30 a.m. and be ready to report for your assignment by 8:30 a.m. Use the entrance on West 40th Street and 11th Avenue. Security will have your name on their check-list and will allow you to enter the facility. Your robing area is located in back of the stage.


    Site Visit & Training Session

    Location:          Javits Center North
    608 West 40th Street; use entrance on West 40th Street and 11th Avenue.

    We will schedule a Site Visit and Training Session for all Commencement Marshals and Volunteers at the Javits Center. Become familiar with this new venue; obtain your assignment; know where you will report the day of commencement and where you will be stationed!

     The Academic Procession


    Faculty and staff participating in the Academic Procession should arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and use the entrance on West 40th Street and 11th Avenue. Security will have your name on their check-list and will allow you to enter the facility. Your robing area is located in back of the stage.


    Those not marching in the Academic Procession should arrive between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and use the entrance on West 40th Street and 11th Avenue. Present your admission ticket to Security and take a seat in the Javits North Hall.

     

     

     The Presidential Platform Party & VIP Guests


    Should arrive by 9:00 a.m. and use the entrance on West 38th Street and 11th Avenue. Walk directly to the foot of the escalators opposite the entrance doors. A commencement volunteer will have your name on their check-list and guide you to the presidential platform party robing area in Room 1A04-5, located one floor below. Take the escalators or elevator to this level.

     The Ceremony


    Will start at approximately 9:50 a.m. and will end at approximately 1:00 p.m.

    The entire ceremony will be projected live onto four large plasma screens and will be signed by American Sign Language interpreters. The entire audience will be able to see and participate no matter where they are seated!

     Order of the Processionals

    The Student Processional will march into the theater at approximately 9:50 a.m.

    The Academic Procession will form at approximately 9:45 a.m. and will begin to march into the theater by 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by the Presidential Platform Party. Both groups will sit on stage.

     Luncheon Reception

     

    At the conclusion of the ceremony, all those on the stage will return to their respective robing areas to drop off their rental gowns and collect their personal belongings. We cannot secure the robing areas after the ceremony ends.

    Immediately thereafter, all faculty and staff members are cordially invited to join President Mellow for a luncheon reception in the “Link”, located between the Javits North Hall and the Concourse in the Javits Center.
