When I was a young girl, my father used to tell me about the cultures of many countries. I liked the stories a lot. At that time, my father told me these stories because he believed that studying abroad would help me to understand other cultures. I learned my father’s lesson very well and therefore always dreamed of studying in the U.S. because I thought that studying in the U.S. would help me to be a world citizen.
After finishing high school in Korea , I came to the U.S. to get a college education. I decided to study at LaGuardia. It was a big step for me to approach my dream. At this college, I have gained knowledge and broadened my horizons day by day because I have met many friends who have different cultural backgrounds. I have made friends with students who come from Greece , Mexico , Hong Kong , Jamaica , Venezuela and Russia . I have discovered that all of these new friends are proud of their own countries’ cultures. These experiences at LaGuardia with people from other places have allowed me to consider other culture’s points of view while at the same time giving me a deeper understanding of my own culture.
